About ReefColors

ReefColors is owned and maintained by Wolfram Sander. The website is a personal collection of underwater photographs taken over more than two decades of diving and travelling.

The galleries show reef fish, sharks, rays, turtles, invertebrates, corals, and many smaller reef species from different parts of the world. Where possible, species are identified by both their common English names and scientific names.

Photo galleries and species information

ReefColors is not only arranged as a set of photo galleries. The photographs can also be searched using keywords and metadata, including taxonomy information.

In addition to the images shown in the public galleries, the searchable collection includes photographs of further species that may be useful for identification or of interest to specialists. These images may not appear directly in the galleries, but they can be found through the site search.

Essays

The site also includes essays on scientific topics related to the underwater world. These articles cover selected aspects of marine biology, chemistry, and ecology, and are intended to provide background information beyond the photographs themselves.

Diving and local club

Most of the images on ReefColors were taken during dive trips abroad, but diving also has a local side. My local dive club in Germany is DUC Hattingen.

The club offers indoor dive training, regular diving activities, excursions to local lakes, and occasionally extended dive trips. It also has facilities for filling scuba tanks. For divers in the Hattingen and Ruhr area, it is a good place to train, meet other divers, and stay active between larger trips.
